Silver Bullets Garner One Win in Weekend Slate Versus Marshfield and Scituate

It was a rough week for the Barnstable Silver Bullets as five of the program's six teams lost games – three to Scituate at home last Sunday afternoon and two out of three to Marshfield on the road.
The Barnstable Division 1 Mites (4-1) picked up their fourth win with a fine, 12-0, effort over Marshfield thanks to touchdowns by Matt Lambert and Darien Kaski.
In three games at home versus Scituate, the Barnstable Division 5 Mites, Pee Wees and Midgets fell with the Division 5 Mites (1-4) losing, 18-0, followed by the Pee Wees (2-3), 8-0, and the Midgets (0-5), 26-8.
The Division 1 Pee Wees (2-3) fell to Marshfield, 6-0, at Marshfield High School even though the Barnstable defense did not allow the Marshfield offense past the 30-yard line or an offensive score. Marshfield's Brian May picked off a Barnstable pass attempt and ran it back 35 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to give Marshfield (5-0) all it would need to win.
Barnstable's defense was led by Zach Stevens who collected 4.5 tackles on the day, including a phenomenal quarterback sack for a 12-yard loss. Following Stevens was Everett Walsh (4.0 tackles), Curtis Collopy (4.0 tackles), Damon Blake (4.0 tackles) and Damian Johnson (3.5 tackles). Kevin     Ostrom and Bobby Melley also played well on the defensive side of the ball.
On its first offensive possession of the game in the first quarter, Barnstable's Charlie Rice took off for what appeared to be a 35-yard touchdown run, but the referee said his knee was down when he hit the goal line. Two plays later, an attempted pass was intercepted and the two teams spent the next three quarters fighting tooth and nail before Marshfield's defensive unit punched one in the end zone to make it 6-0.
On offense, Tevin Hill had 16 carries for 65 yards, followed by Charlie Rice (1 carry, 35 yards) and Danny Tierno (2 carries, 7 yards). Damon Blake was 0-3 passing with two interceptions.
In the Division 5 Pee Wees' 8-0 loss to Scituate at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field, p enalties, a bad case of “the fumbles” and slow defensive start caused a frustrating afternoon.
A fumble recovered by Scituate on the opening kickoff lead to the only score of the game. On the ensuing kickoff Tedoro France had a great return, running completely across the field and down the opposite sideline, out-running the entire Scituate team to the end zone for a 65-yard TD run. Unfortunately, the Bullets had a block in the back penalty behind the play to negate France's effort.
From that point forward, the game became a defensive struggle between both teams featuring hard hits. The bullets defense lead by lineman Ryan Litchman,   Andrew Falacci and Andrew Ellis kept the hard running Scitute backs from getting much yardage between the tackles. Defense ends Terrance Mudie and Bryan Hardy both had a steller day containing the outside advances of the Scituate ground attack.
Offensively, both France and Manny Perry had there share of good gainers and Hardy had an outstanding catch and run reception for 12 yards and a first down on a pass thrown by Mudie but the offense put the ball on the ground too many times wiping out the positive yardage plays. The loss leaves the Bullets at 2-3.
The Division 5 Bullets will play at home Saturday (Oct. 22), starting with the Mites at 5:00 p.m., while the Division 1 Bullets head to Middleboro on Sunday, starting at 11:30 a.m.
