Silver
Bullets D5 Mites Shut Out Hanover
at Home
HYANNIS — The Barnstable Silver
Bullets D5 Mites handed in a convincing, 12-0 victory Saturday night
at W. Leo Shields Field and shut out Hanover for the second time
this season.
Running back Manny Perry collected
104 yards rushing on five carries and had two touchdowns to pace
the Barnstable
offense. Other backs included quarterback Andrew Falacci (1 carry,
10 yards); Colby Blaze (3 carries, two yards); Daryl Frye (three
carries); Eric Rogorzinski (three carries, three yards); Max Lambert
(one carry) and Pedro Almeida (one carry).
The Silver Bullets’ defense played
a staunch, unrelenting brand of football, led by cornerbacks Scotty
Warren (three tackles) and Timmy Roderiques (three tackles) and
defensive tackles Jonathan Eldredge and Falacci. All totalled, the
Silver Bullets’ “D” put forward 11 defensive plays for a Hanover
loss of yardage. Eldredge
(three tackles) and Falacci (four tackles) each had one sack on
the day.
Safety Danny Johnson picked
up two critical tackles late in the game, including a quarterback
sack and a touchdown-saving hit. Other Mites defenders who contributed
on defense included defensive tackle Elijah Daniels (two tackles);
middle linebacker Matty Lambert (four tackles); linebacker Marcus
Cunningham (two tackles) defensive ends Brian Hardy and Mark Lambert
(three tackles each); noseguard Justes Chafee (two tackles); outside
linebacker Anthony DeBarros (one tackle); safety Robby Stuart (one
tackle). Solid defensive play was also handed in by defensive tackle
Jack Newton; noseguards Conor Walsh and Taryn Tinti, defensive end
Matthew Gardiner, cornerbacks John Hardy and Colby McWilliams and
safety Darien Kaski. All totalled, 21 players contributed to a defensive
effort that represented 34 total plays.
Truth be told, however, it was a revamped Barnstable
offensive line that
helped set the stage for both of Perry’s touchdowns and his second
consecutive game with 100-yards-plus rushing. Tight ends Michael
Joyce and Mike Dombrowski, guards Hayden Murphy and Conor Walsh,
tackles Steven Zeglen and Tom Harrington and center Scott Girvan
set up solid blocks through the first half of the game to give the
Silver Bullets a 6-0 lead, and a 12-0 lead early in the third quarter.
Other linemen and backs who played well on offense included Trevor
Sayers (guard), Tim Omerzu (tackle), Andrew Johnson (guard), Hannah
Broberg (tight end) and Matthew Tracy (quarterback).
The D5 Mites now stand at 3-4 on
the season heading into this week’s regular season finale against
Hanson, but win or lose, the Mites have still qualified for the
Old Colony League playoffs.
