Div. 1 Mites & Pee Wees Defeat Whitman with

34-0 and 14-0 Shutouts

Sunday, Sept. 24, at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field
The Barnstable Silver Bullets Division 1 Mites picked up their second straight shutout victory Sunday at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field, defeating Whitman, 34-0. In two games, Barnstable has outscored its opponents, 54-0.
Quarterback Hayden Murphy played brilliantly from the very start, notching touchdown runs of 20- and 25-yards, respectively, on his only two carries of the day. He also went 1-1 passing and collected 2.5 tackles, 3.5 sacks and had one fumble recovery on defense.
Other touchdowns were scored by Drew Lambert, Brian Reid and Darien Kaski. Marcus Cunningham and Matt Lambert each notched two-point conversion runs to round off the scoring.
Cunningham collected 25 yards rushing on six carries, Matt Lambert had 17 yards rushing on four carries, Derek Pacheco had nine yards on two carries but the top yard-gainer on the day was Brian Reid who had 69 yards rushing on three carries. Reid also collected three solo tackles on defense.
Other defensive stalwarts for the Div. 1 Mites included Conor Walsh (4 tackles), Johnny Hardy (2.5 tackles/sack), Nathan Yingling (2.5 tackles), Marcus Cunningham (2 tackles), Kevin Huska (fumble recovery), Max Lambert (1.5 tackles) and Matt Lambert, Tim Ebert, Seamus Murray, Danny Skala, Christian Lucashensky, Colby McWilliams, Drew Lambert, Tim Omerzu, Justus Chaffee and Matt Tracy each with one tackle apiece.
Barnstable set the tone early on in the game when Derek Pacheco launched a tremendous kick-off to leave Whitman deep in its own territory on the 25-yard line.
Max and Matt Lambert made tackles on Whitman’s first two plays, then Defensive end Hayden Murphy and middle linebacker Conor Walsh hammered the ball carrier in the backfield to cause a fumble, recovered quickly by cornerback Kevin Huska.
It took Barnstable just two plays from the 25-yard line to score, with Cunningham gaining five on the first carry and Murphy taking the outside lane for a 20-yard touchdown score to make it 6-0. Matt Lambert followed with a two-point conversion run to make it 8-0, Barnstable.
Pacheco unleashed another deep kick-off boot to once again leave the Barnstable defense in solid position to seize an opportunity. Murphy and Johnny Hardy notched consecutive solo hits in the backfield, followed by an incomplete pass to leave Whitman at 4th and 19, deep in its own territory. A desperation pass on fourth down gave Barnstable a golden opportunity it would not fail to capitalize on.
With 3:56 left in the first quarter, Darien Kaski took the bal outside for a 20-yard touchdown to make it 14-0. The PAT kick failed, but Barnstable was in good position to run away with this affair. It would not fail to provide continued excitement on the defensive side of the ball when Hardy, Murphy and noseguard Lee Hickey applied enough pressure on Whitman to cause a fumble, recovered by Murphy.
Cunningham, Matt Lambert, Pacheco and Kaski churned up the yards on offense, driving almost the length of the field before coming up short on 4th and 1.
Bolstered by a 14-0 lead, however, the Barnstable defense would not fail to attack Whitman with everything it had, as Cunningham, Walsh and Murphy applied enough pressure to again make Whitman cough up the pigskin – almost literally. On 1st and 10, Murphy and Walsh nailed the Whitman quarterback deep in the backfield, with Murphy somehow wrangling the ball loose and keeping it for himself at midfield.
It took just two more offensive plays for Murphy to break free for a beautiful, 35-yard touchdown score, his second of the day and fourth in two games. Ahead 22-0 with 1:08 remaining in the half, the dogs would not be called off as Barnstable exhibited nice tackles by Brian Reid, Cunningham, Hardy and two consecutive sacks by Murphy (one in combination with Hardy). Barnstable took over possession of the ball and opted to take a knee as the clock ticked down to halftime with the hosts ahead, 22-0.
Stepping in for Murphy at the quarterback slot in the second half, Justus Chaffee showed phenomenal poise as a first-year play-caller, handing the ball off to Drew Lambert, Reid, Max Lambert and then Drew Lambert once more for a touchdown to make it 28-0, Barnstable.
Combined with two incomplete passes and nice tackles by Walsh and Danny Skala, Whitman again gained nothing and Barnstable took over at midfield once again on downs. Drew Lambert picked up one yard to bring up 2nd and 9, when Reid stepped in to take off on a 35-touchdown jaunt, his first-ever score for Barnstable.
Whitman then rattled off 12 plays in an effort to punch at least one score in, but it was to no avail as Walsh, Chaffee, Nathan Yingling, Lucashensky, Omerzu, McWilliams, Drew Lambert, Tracy and Reid all made nice tackles to keep Whitman at bay.
The Division 1 Mites next face Dennis-Yarmouth next Saturday night at W. Leo Shields Field.

Division 1 Pee Wees Defeat Whitman Soundly, 14-0
Two touchdown passes from Damon Blake to Danny Tierno and Charlie Rice was all the offense the Barnstable Silver Bullets Division 1 Mites would need Sunday afternoon, as they defeated Whitman, 14-0, at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field.
The Barnstable defense played well enough to completely stymie a tough Whitman squad, allowing the visitors their only first downs of the entire game in one final drive, late in the fourth quarter.
Outside linebacker Tevin Hill led the way on defense (and also had six carries for 36 yards on offense) with eight tackles on the day. Damian Johnson and Everett Walsh each had 3.5 tackles, followed by Zach Stevens (3.0 tackles), Curtis Collopy (2.5 tackles), Dominique Tillman (tackle/interception), Charlie Rice (2 tackles), James Starkey (2 tackles), Bob Melley (2 tackles), Damon Blake (1 tackle), P.J.
