2006 Division 1 Pee Wees Game Highlights

Division 1 Pee Wees Finish Undefeated Season in Grand Fashion with Super Bowl Victory

Just over a minute remained in the fourth quarter with the score tied at 0-0, but as a somber church bell tolled in the distance and the gray November sky darkened, the Barnstable Silver Bullets Div. 1 Pee Wees drove through the muck of Bridgewater's Legion Field and into the end zone for the game's only score to capture the 2006 OCYFL SUper Bowl Championship.

Manny Perry's five-yard touchdown run completed an undefeated season for the Bullets at 8-0-2.

Sunday's weather forecast was ominous at best with plenty of rain earlier in the day, clouds ever present and a high probability of more rain. The field would have made Wilbur, from Charlotte's Web or Babe proud to join the pile. With a home field advantage, conditions not favoring the Barnstable speed and a 12-6 defeat earlier in the season , the Badgers were set to put forth their best effort of the season.

Both teams traded punts on their opening series .On Barnstable's second series , a Tedaro France quick pitch lead by a key pulling block of Andrew Ellis sprung for a big gain of 20 yards deep into Badgers territory. Next came a couple of short gains by Manny Perry and France . On third down , Perry , with some shifty running , bounced an off tackle counter to the outside hoping to score but was dragged down after 12 yards. Barnstable, had the ball 1 st and goal from the 5 and the big MO . As it turned out , the yards turned to miles as the Bridgewater defense repelled all 4 attempts to score taking over on downs.

Bridgewater kept the momentum and managed 2 successive first downs and a little breathing room from deep in their territory. The Bridgewater drive then sputtered and Barnstable took over on downs. For the rest of the second quarter the defenses of both teams took over using the sloppy conditions to their advantage. One of the last exciting plays of the half included a halfback pass from France to Mark Lambert which just fell short . Neither team had much success moving the ball as time ran out in the half with the score 0-0.

A deep kickoff by France and excellent coverage put the Badgers firmly in their territory to start the third quarter . On the first play from scrimmage , Tedaro France fell on a miscue in the Bridgewater backfield .Barnstable ball starting at the Bridgewater 29 yard line. The big MO again, however, was lost when the stubborn Badger defense stood tall stopping the Bullets on 4 downs.

After Bridgewater picked up a first down , Ellis came up big , stopping a Badger back for a 5 yard loss. The next play to follow had a block in back penalty on Bridgewater which had them going in the wrong direction. On the third and 26 , End Bryan Hardy , clawing at the quarterbacks' legs , forced an errant pass setting up a Bridgewater punt. Barnstable decided to after the punt and block it . Block it , they did. Ellis pounded through the middle with a picture perfect block that could have made the cover of SI.

With Hardy on the recovery , the Bullets offense took over again. The big MO back to Barnstable. The Badger defense, again with their backs to the wall, reached down for a little more intestinal fortitude. The Barnstable Team, Coaches and Fans felt the pit in the stomachs grow and they let out a collective quiet groan as the offense again was met hard with every barrage .On fourth down, France, looking to pass the ball , with an open receiver in the end zone, felt the pressure of the pass rush. He scampered for the chains but was brought down a yard shy of the first down.

Now in the 4 th quarter , the game was taking the shape of a 0-0 tie with the field conditions and two stout defenses ruling the day. Bridgewater punted and then Barnstable was forced to punt again .With argueably one of the plays of the game , worthy of the cover of SI, Barnstable punter Kadeem Bailey , showed us his athleticism . He managed a one hand grab on a high snap and got the punt away . Barnstable let out a sigh of relief while Bridgewater clinged to a memory of what could have been.

The punt pinned Bridgewater deep in their own territory at their 20 yard line. The Final Act of the Epic battle was about to play out. It was up to the Bullets defense to stand tall one more time. With time running down , the Barnstable offense needed the ball back. Cornerback Colby Blaze had a big stop on a sweep on first down. This was followed by 2 tackles by defensive end Hardy on second and third downs.

Bridgewater , facing a 4 th and long situation on their 22, opted to punt .With all eyes fixed on the moment that played out , the snap was tight but high . The pigskin sailed for a moment , as if it was in slow motion , over the punter's outstretched hands. Defensive End Mark Lambert pounced on the ball at the Bridgewater 6 yard line .Barnstable ball.

With just over 2 minutes to play for the Championship , Barnstable had first and goal from the Bridgewater 6 yard line . Which team would finally break ? Could the big MO again leave Barnstable empty handed ? On first down , running behind tight end Lambert, tackle Andrew Falacci, guard Trevor Sayers and following lead backs France and Hardy; Perry drove down to the 2 ½ yard line setting up second and goal. The crowd was screaming for the Bullets to drive it home. On second down , behind a tremendous block by tackle Ellis and a superb double team by guard Ryan Litchman and center Mike Dombrowski , again following France and Hardy; Perry powered untouched into the end zone . Bullets 6 Bridgewater 0 . Time remaining : 1 minute 30 seconds. Bridgewater turned back the 2 point conversion leaving the games outcome still in the air.

Bridgewater had one more chance after receiving the kickoff. On the first play from scrimmage , with the QB rolling right; defense end Hardy stepped up again. He bulled through 2 blockers leaping into the QB's face causing the ball to be thrown off target. Linebacker Tedaro France alertly intercepted the ball putting a dagger in the Badger's hopes for a come back. France sealed the deal with a 21 yard run down the sidelines on 3 rd and 6 allowing the Bullets to run out the clock winning the Old Colony Youth Football League Super Bowl.

There were many keys to the great win by the Bullets. The offense although not as productive as normal did not have one unforced error, no penalties, no fumbles giving Bridgewater no easy changes to score. When the game was truly was on the line the offensive line took over and helped drive the ball easily into the end zone. The defense was it's usual unforgiving self. They did bend some giving up a few first downs but Bridgewater never got within 50 yards of the end zone. In the game the defense was lead in tackles by Hardy with 4.5 and by Ellis with 2.5 tackles . Ellis blocked a punt and was a concern all day for Bridgewater. Linebacker France not only led the team in rushing with 64 yards but had the fumble recovery, the interception and 3 tackles to boot.

As always however , the defensive prowess was a group effort with Linebacker Kelsey Medeiros contributing two big pass deflections and a big tackle for a loss. Middle Linebacker Jake Kipnes , the quarterback of the defense , was always around the ball and had 2 tackles. Corner's Blaze and Tyler Kennedy were immense all game stopping the Badgers passing game and outside runs. Safety Bailey was also a stalwart stopping the pass and contributed 1.5 tackles of his own. Nose guard Litchman was a rock in the middle and tackles Chris Billings, Andrew Falacci came up big. Defense end Lambert had a strong game with 2.5 tackles and really stepped up when needed

It was a great season for the Bullets winning the Super Bowl for the 2 nd time in 3 years. Running back France had a great year with 950 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. His running partner Manny Perry had 400 yards rushing and 7 touchdowns. Back Bailey and Quarterback Eric Rogorzenski each chipped in with 2 touchdowns, with Hardy, Medeiros and Jacob LaRoche scored one touchdown each. In all the Offense produced 176 points .None of these scores would have happened with out the blocking of the line; tackles Ellis, Tom Harrington, Falacci; guards Litchman, Sayers, Jack Newton ; Center Mike Dombrowski and ends Lambert, Alec Morrison, Hardy and the blocking of the backs, France, Gabe DeStefano, Terrance Mudie and Hardy paved the way for a great season.

The first defensive group gave up only one touchdown in 10 games. As a team, only 40 points across 10 games for the whole season. End Hardy led the team in tackles with 35 and teamed up with Mudie they formed the best defensive end combination in the league. Tackle Ellis caused teams to run the other way from was second on the team in tackles with 33. Linebacker France lead the team with 3 interceptions one for a touchdown. Nose tackle Litchman was unstoppable all year while tackles Billings and Falacci did a good job protecting the linebackers allowing them to make plays. Linebacker Kipnes left his mark across the league with his booming hits. Many a running back left the game wondering what was the number of the truck that hit them. Linebacker Medeiros became a key to stopping the pass and a consistent run stopper. Corners Blaze and Kennedy were steady if not spectacular all year and safety Bailey covered as much ground as any defense back in the league.

Other members of the PeeWee 11 TEAM who participated in different roles and capacities throughout the season are Ryan Mecley , Daryl Frye, Matthew Stewart, Billy Ho, Connor Fries, Kevin Ribeiro, Ricardo Conrado ,Johnnie Eldredge ,John Richardson ,Will Morrison & Nick Rabideau .Great job and a job well done.
