| Silver Bullets Close Season with Banquet HYANNIS
— It was standing room only at the Sheraton Hyannis Resort Sunday evening,
as the Barnstable Silver Bullets hosted 225 youth football players, their
parents and families in the 17th Annual Silver Bullets Awards Banquet.
Barnstable High School Head Football Coach Paul “Spanky” Demanche was the honorary guest speaker. Barnstable High School varsity football captains and former Silver Bullets players Erik Ellis, Justin Gomes and Mike Messmer each spoke and reminisced about their days on the Silver Bullets' gridiron and how it helped engender a deep love and appreciation for the game and led them to their successes in the high school program. The banquet was staged in large part by six-year Silver Bullets President Mike Collopy and his wife Sue Collopy. Both received standing ovations for their tireless and selfless efforts in keeping the Silver Bullets program on consistent track toward success. Board of directors also recognized for their continued hard work and diligence in making the Silver Bullets a success were Bill Sifflard, Paul Capeless, Kyle Cocozza Sr., Kim Christian, Pandora Lagadinos, Vicki Zeglen, Jeff Looby, Shawn Dombrowski and Equipment Manager Steve Kortis. Kortis and Looby, both longtime Silver Bullets board members, announced that the 2003 season was their last, passing the torch onto new blood. The Bullets honored two Old Colony Youth Football League Super Bowl Champions from this season, the Division 1 Pee Wees and the Division 1 Mites. This season bore witness to the 13th Super Bowl trophy garnered by the Silver Bullets program since its inception in 1987. This year marked the second Super Bowl Championship won by Division 1 Mites Head Coach Paul Hickey. The Division 1 Pee Wees Head Coach was Kerry Delaney. Each player and coach from each Barnstable Silver Bullets Super Bowl Champion has his or her name inscribed on each Super Bowl trophy. Silver Bullets Board of Directors member Brian Dacey offered several inspiring words about the Red Dacey Award, an award given each year to the “player who best exemplifies the spirit and determination of the Barnstable Silver Bullets.” Middle linebacker and fullback Cam Crocker garnered the award for the Division 1 Mites, followed by Alex Thome for the Division 1 Pee Wees and James Tenaglia for the Division 1 Midgets. Other awards and recognition went to Division 1 Mites assistant coach Bob Wilson for his many years of dedicated service to the program. Wilson, who was a lineman at Barnstable High School in the late 1970s, has had two sons – Zach and Jason Wilson – who played through the Silver Bullets ranks. Jason has also served as an assistant coach for the Division 1 Mites the past two seasons. Wimpy's Player of the Week Awards went to the following Division 5 Mites players: Anthony DeBarros, Marcus Cunningham, Mark Lambert, Danny Johnson, Manny Perry, Jonthan Eldredge, Andrew Falacci, Timmy Rodrigues and Bryan Hardy. Division 1 Mites who received Player of the Week Awards included: Charlie Rice, Cam Crocker, Everett Walsh, Devin Broadley, Damian Johnson, P.J. Crosby, Theodore France and Bob Melley. Division 1 Pee Wees Player of the Week Awards went to Isaiah Voegeli, Alex Thome, Blake Blaze, Andrew McAteer and Mike Kullas. Broadley was also recognized for selling the most raffle tickets of any individual Silver Bullet, a total of 40 $10 tickets. He was given a $100 gift certificate for his efforts.
