Silver
Bullets D5 Mites Fall in Home Opener
HYANNIS
- Facing the defending Old Colony League defending Super Bowl Co-Champions,
the Barnstable Silver Bullets D5 Mites held their collective heads
high in a tough, 20-6 defeat Saturday night at W. Leo Shields Field
at Barnstable
High
School .
All of Barnstable
's
41 players this season are first-year players, while Scituate
boasted nine returning players from last year's Super Bowl squad.
Barnstable
also includes 17 seven-year-olds on this year's team.
Ironically, it was a spirited crew
of seven-year-olds who paced Barnstable
's
defense and offense on the day, as Cody Blaze scampered 85 yards
for the home team's sole score of the day and the first touchdown
of his football career.
On defense, outside linebacker Marcus
Cunningham collected 10 tackles on the day, followed by middle linebacker
Matthew Lambert who had eight and noseguard Conor Walsh who had
seven, including a solo sack of the Scituate quarterback on the
goal line on a two-point PAT attempt in the first quarter. Free
safety Timmy Roderiques played his position perfectly, collecting
five tackles in the open field and saving at least two potential
touchdowns.
Mark Lambert had 20 yards on five
carries on the day on offense, while Andrew Falacci collected 7
tackles from cornerback and three outstanding hits from the defensive
tackle slot late in the fourth quarter, including a QB sack for
a loss of 10 yards.
Center Mike Dombrowski did an outstanding
job the entire game for the Silver Bullets. Quarterback Danny Johnson
also turned in one excellent run of 10 yards on a broken play early
in the game.
The D5 Mites next face Hingham
on the road this Saturday night.
