| Barnstable Raises Record to 3-0 with Dominant Display Over Middleboro
The Barnstable Silver Bullets Division 5 Mites captured their third straight win of the season Saturday afternoon at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field, with a 28-0 shutout over guest Middleboro. Quarterback Hayden Murphy once again led the offense in scoring with two touchdowns, followed by Matt Lambert with a 30-yard touchdown run and Greg Harris with a 70-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Harris collected 107 yards rushing on four carries on the day. Running back Marcus Cunningham had his best game to date with 73 yards rushing on four carries, including a 43-yard scamper on the game's first play. Murphy also punched in a two-point conversion run and had 27 yards on five carries on the day. Drew Lambert also collected a two-point PAT conversion on the day. Conor Walsh had 20 yards rushing on 7 carries, including a critical first down rush that set up Matt Lambert's 30-yard touchdown in the third quarter to make it 18-0, Barnstable . Running back Kevin Huska picked up six yards on two carries. Max Lambert picked up 33 yards on five carries and Darien Kaski collected 19 yards on two carries. Colby McWilliams picked up four yards on one carry. The Division 5 Mites had very little work to do on the day as the Barnstable offense controlled the ball and clock throughout the entire game. Middle linebacker John Hardy played spectacularly throughout the game, collecting three tackles in all and causing one fumble when Middleboro was on the five yard line on 4 th and goal early in the fourth quarter. The fumble was recovered by noseguard Max Lambert. Other solid defensive efforts came from Cunningham who had 4 tackles on the day, Walsh with two, defensive tackles Clyde Perry and Josh Bestford who each combined on two tackles, free safety Danny Skala who was in on two key hits, Rob Stuart (1), Hayden Murphy (1), Max Lambert (1.5), Kristian Luchichinsky (1.5), Nathan Yingling (1.5), Drew Lambert (1) and Kraig Diggs (0.5). Yingling, who switched to free safety from his usual slot at defensive end, saved a touchdown early in the third quarter on a 40-yard run by Middleboro. The Barnstable defense was on the field for only 18 plays and allowed two first downs. All totalled, the defense allowed 105 yards on the ground but in two of the four offensive series Middleboro was on the field, the Barnstable defense held Middleboro to just 17 yards. On 9 of Middleboro's 18 plays, Barnstable dropped the ball carrier for a loss of yards. The Division 5 Mites host Hingham Saturday night (Oct. 2) at 5 p.m. at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field.
