D5 Mites Drop Tough One to Hanson

HANSON – The Barnstable Silver Bullets D5 Mites gave everything they had Sunday afternoon versus a tough, non-league D4 Hanson squad, falling in the last game of the regular season, 26-0.
The D5 Mites finish the regular season at 3-5, matching last year’s regular-season output.
Barnstable now heads to the playoffs versus Scituate .
Manny Perry carried the ball six times in the second half for 25 yards, but six fumbled snaps cost
Barnstable what few hopes they had to stage a running attack against an oversized and hard-charging Hanson defense. Hanson scored two touchdowns on onside kick-off attempts, picking the ball up in stride and going the distance for the end zone.
Outside linebacker Marcus Cunningham led the defense with eight tackles on the day, including two during three consecutive defensive stints in the second half that stopped the Hanson offense from continuing the damage. Defensive end Mark Lambert collected five tackles on the day.
Middle linebacker Matt Lambert collected four tackles on the day, followed by defensive end Brian Hardy who had three tackles and a beautiful solo sack late in the fourth quarter for a loss of seven yards. Hardy also stopped a two-point PAT. Other outstanding defensive efforts included Jonathan Eldredge (three tackles), safety Rob Stuart (three tackles), noseguard Conor Walsh (three tackles including a stop of a two-point PAT attempt), linebacker Danny Johnson (three tackles), cornerback Timmy Rodriques (two tackles), defensive tackle Jack Newton (three tackles), noseguard Justus Chaffee (two tackles), cornerback Scotty Warren (two tackles), linebacker Anthony DeBarros (two tackles), cornerback John Hardy (one tackle), tackle Elijah Daniels (one tackle), linebacker Drew Lambert (one tackle), and noseguard Taryn Tinti (one tackle).
Other players on defense included tackle Andrew Falacci (one tackle), cornerback Darien Kaski, safety Colby McWilliams and defensive end Matthew Gardiner. Falacci and Mark Lambert also stopped a two-point PAT attempt.
On offense, ball carriers included Colby Blaze (two carries), Eric Rogrozinski (two carries), Daryl Frye (three carries), quarterback Matt Tracy and Max Lambert (one carry).
Offensive linemen included Andrew Johnson, Trevor Sayers, Mike Dombrowski, Scott Girvan, Steven Zeglen, Hannah Broberg, Timothy Omerzu, Thomas Harrington, Hayden Murphy and Michael Joyce.
