Division
5 Mites Remain Unbeaten at 5-0-1
The Barnstable
Silver bullets Division 5 Mites maintained their unbeaten record with
a firm, 38-0 victory over host Hanover Saturday afternoon at Hanover
High School. The Division 5 Mites are now 5-0-1 on the season with two
away games remaining versus Marshfield and Middleboro.
Tailback Darien Kaski collected 134 yards
rushing on just three carries, each carry a touchdown. Kaski could not
have played better as he took back the opening kickoff in the second
half for his fourth touchdown of the game, a 70-yard jaunt into the
endzone for 204 all-purpose yards on the day. Two-point conversion scores
were notched by fullback Conor Walsh and two by halfback Marcus Cunningham.
Quarterback Kraig Diggs scored the Silver Bullets' final touchdown of
the day as the clock wound down late in the fourth quarter.
It was Barnstable's fourth shutout of
the season as the red and white defensive units combined to keep Hanover
at bay. Each defensive player played a full half of football, but few
players' efforts compared to that of noseguard Lee Hickey and defensive
tackle Clyde Perry who turned in their best performances of the season.
Hickey collected six tackles on the day
while Perry had three, including a crucial hit in the backfield in the
first quarter to cause a fumble and then he recovered the fumble.
Other solid efforts included the fine
work of defensive end Rob Stuart who picked up two tackles including
a huge sack early on. Linebackers Marcus Cunningham and Conor Walsh
again proved their mettle with six combined tackles on the day. Josh
Bestford, Justus Chaffee, Kaski and Matty Lambert also turned in fine
performances on defense.
The white defensive unit was no less
impressive as defensive end Timmy Ebert led the way with two fine tackles.
Linebacker Kristian Luchichinsky and cornerback Drew Lambert also played
exceptionally well. Defensive tackles Brandon Wilkinson and Riley Ashe
and linebacker Nicky Passalugo also held their ground.
The Silver bullets' defense allowed Hanover
just one first down throughout the game on an incredible nine defensive
series. It was the second time in as many weeks that the Division 5
Mites allowed their opponent just one first down.
Diggs collected two runs of 15
yards apiece while Passalugo also turned in a fine, 15-yard jaunt.
The Bullets head to Marshfield this weekend.
