D5 Silver Bullets Shut Out Hanover

Backed by the superb running of Manny Perry and an unrelenting defense, the Barnstable Silver Bullets D5 Mites picked up their first victory of the season Saturday night, defeating Hanover , 8-0.
Perry had 102 yards rushing on the day and one touchdown in the second quarter, a 7-yard run to make it 6-0. Quarterback Danny Johnson punched in the two-point PAT to make it 8-0. Perry also had an 80-yard kick-off return touchdown called back at the onset of the second half.
      The
Barnstable defense, however, spelled the difference in the game for the visitors.
Barnstable deferred to Hanover after winning the coin toss, electing to place its defense on the field first. Led by middle linebacker Matt Lambert, defensive tackle Andrew Falacci and cornerbacksTimmy Rodriques and Scotty Warren, the Silver Bullets quashed an incredibly fine-tuned Hanover offense. The Bullets' “D” took over the ball on downs after the first series, only to return moments later after the offense lost control of the ball. Again, the Barnstable defense held its ground, stopping any and all attempts by the hosts to head into the red zone.
Perry and Johnson went to work in the second quarter, picking up the only points
Barnstable would need to take home the team's first win.
The second half was not much different than the first, with the sole exception being that the rough and tumble
Barnstable defense had to step its game up one more notch.
Faced with a hard-charging
Hanover offense, the Silver Bullets found themselves defending their own end zone for the last six minutes of the game. For six straight minutes the Hanover offense chewed up yard by yard until it found itself on the Barnstable goal line. For four successive plays, the Barnstable defense stuffed Hanover 's attempts to punch it in, most notably when linebacker Marcus Cunningham stopped the Hanover running back cold as he appeared headed for the end zone.
Roderiques was the true defensive hero of the game for the Silver Bullets, followed by Falacci who collected six tackles and had two sacks. Other outstanding efforts by the Silver Bullets defense included the aforementioned Lambert and
Warren , noseguard Conor Walsh (three tackles), defensive end Mark Lambert and linebacker Anthony DeBarros.
