Div. 1 Mites Go To 2-0 with 12-8 Win Over Rockland

After experiencing a washout due to rain on Saturday Night, the Barnstable Silver Bullets Division One Mites continued their winning ways by defeating Rockland on Sunday by a score of 12 – 8.

Once again the Defense lead the way with key defensive stops, and this week they contributed three fumble recoveries and a blocked punt.   Cornerback Gabe Destefano recovered two dropped balls and Defensive End Seamus Murray had the other fumble recovery. After a tenacious rush by the entire defense, Marc Lambert managed to block the punt and give the ball back to Barnstable.

The Mites' offense was good enough to secure the win with two touchdowns.   Runningbacks Manny Perry and Tedero France each had a touchdown and have now scored in consecutive games. Barnstable controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball with solid play by the interior line of Captain Andrew Ellis, Ryan Litchman, Marc Lambert, Bryan Hardy, Seamus Murray, Andrew Zeglen, Jonathan Eldredge and Mike Dombrowski. Captain Jake Kipnes and the Red One Defense held the Rockland Tigers scoreless throughout the game and have yet to give up a touchdown this season.

The Red Two Defense handled most of the fourth quarter against Rockland's first unit trying to match their play of last week, lead by Tackle Connor Fries and linebackers Eric Rogerzinski and Dominic Giavonone. After safety Pedro Almeida caught up with a runaway Rockland player to save a touchdown, the scrappy Red Two D almost held another 4 down   goal line stand until Rockland broke through for their score on fourth and four with under a minute left on the clock.

Once again everyone played and everyone contributed on a gorgeous pre-fall football day.   The Barnstable Silver Bullets Super Bowl Champion Division One Mites are now 2-0 as they make another run at defending their title.
