Silver Bullets Brave Elements in Banner Weekend

The Barnstable Silver Bullets staged a cumulative, banner weekend last Saturday and Sunday at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field, reeling in three wins and a tie versus guests Scituate and Hanover.

The Division 1 Mites wrapped up their regular season with a solid, 16-8 victory over Scituate as snow began to cascade over the Barnstable gridiron. Touchdowns were scored by Noah Johnson and Hayden Murphy, with Johnson and Marcus Cunningham each adding two-point conversion runs.

The Division 1 Mites finished the regular season at 6-1 and to the playoffs this weekend.

The Division 1 Pee Wees had slightly more difficult conditions to play in just following the Mites' victory, as the snow began to come down heavily and the Barnstable gridiron turned to almost complete mud.

Quarterback Damon Blake hit Charlie Rice in the end zone on a 7-yard pass to gain an early lead for the Bullets at 6-0. Blake punched in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 at the half.

The Barnstable defense had played solidly through the first half but on Scituate's first possession in the third quarter, one of the Scituate running backs broke free on a sweep and took off 65 yards for a touchdown. Scituate ran the same play on the two-point conversion run and tied the ballgame at 8-8. The score would remain the same through the end for a tie; both teams garnered one point in the Old Colony Youth Football League standings to close out the regular season.

Noseguard Bob Melley (3.5 tackles), defensive tackle Damian Johnson (fumble recovery) cornerback Joe D'Olimpio and defensive end Everett Walsh (3.5 tackles) played exceptionally tough defense to help keep Scituate at bay. Punter Devin Broadley also played very well. The Division 1 Pee Wees head to Marshfield for the playoffs on Saturday (Nov. 5) and stand at 3-3-1 on the season.

The Division 1 Midgets played their hearts out versus Scituate in brutal conditions, falling 8-0 to close out the season at 1-6.

On Sunday (Oct. 30) at W. Leo Shields Memorial Field, the Barnstable Silver Bullets Division 5 Mites finished their regular season at 2-4-1 with a fantastic, 14-12 victory over visiting Hanover.

Jordan Canon and Nick Passalugo both scored touchdowns to lead the way for the Mites. Quarterback Joel Bess played very well, completing four passes on the day. Ryan Leonovich scored a two-point conversion to spell the difference in the Bullets' victory.

The Division 5 Pee Wees ended the regular season and now head to the playoffs this weekend (site and opponent to be named later) after a brilliant, 20-0 victory over Hanover on Sunday afternoon.

Manny Perry, Terrance Muddie and Eric Rogorzenski each knocked in touchdowns for the Bullets. Ryan Litchman caught a nifty two-point conversion pass to round out the scoring. The Division 5 Pee Wees finished the regular season at 4-3.

The Division 5 Midgets wrapped up their 2005 season with a tough, 14-0 loss to Hanover. They finished at 0-7 on the season.
