Hurricane Kyle forced a change of venue for the game between Marshfield and Barnstable September 28, with the contest played on the artificial turf of Bridgewater-Raynham High School instead of at Marshfield. Despite the location, the Bullets just could not get the offense in gear for a meaningful drive, and fell short in an 8-0 defeat against a team that capitalized on a shotgun snap-and-run offense.
Barnstable won the coin toss, and Jordan Galvin-Jutras (21) ran the kick back for eight yards; the Bullet offense took the field at their 47-yard line. Bo Delaney (3) handed off to Tristan Blaisdell to get things started but he didn’t get far, Delaney then kept the ball on second down and gained five yards. Blaisdell got the call for third down for a short gain and Ryan Leonovich was called in for a fourth-down conversion attempt, but fell short. Charlie DiSimone (32) and Joel Bess (60) combined to stop the Marshfield team on its first drive. The Silver Bullets took over near midfield and Leonovich was handed the ball on first down for a two-yard gain. DiSimone got nowhere on sec ond. Delaney next pitched to Brendan Bindig around the left side for three yards. Delaney elected to keep the ball on fourth, but was stopped at the line of scrimmage and the Marshfield offense took over. Marshfield was forced to punt after Colton Bergal (11), Tavian Miranda (25), and Besse shut down any hopes of an offensive drive as the first quarter ended.
After Delaney returned the punt for five yards, he fumbled the snap and the Rams took over at the Barnstable 36-yard line. After a failed pass attempt, Bobby Rivido (4) took the shotgun snap and ran through a hole in the middle and sprinted into the end zone. Marshfield called the exact same play to convert the extra point attempt.
Jake Curtiss (23) smothered the kickoff at the Barnstable 39 and Delaney and the offense rushed onto the field. Bindig rushed for two yards. Leonovich followed with consecutive rushes of four and six yards for a first down. Leonovich and Bindig were called upon again but, on fourth down, Delaney dropped back to pass and fumbled into the hands of Marshfield’s Rivido. DiSimone stripped the ball out the hands of Rivido on the very next down, but Marshfield recovered. Bess and Connor Murphy (78) held the Rams on second down and Colton Bergal stopped a run as time ran out in the first half.
Bindig kicked a 30-yard end-over-end to Marshfield, and that return was stopped after 15 yards by Peter Chirigotis (64) and Tavian Miranda. Chirigotis then stopped a run up the middle after a two-yard gain. Marshfield fumbled the snap on second down, and then Rivido overthrew his receiver, forcing them to punt. DiSimone handled the kick and Barnstable took over on its own 45. Leonovich carried the ball for four yards on first, Bindig for three on second, and Leonivich for one on third. Delaney next threw a pass 10 yards down the right side inches from the outstretched arms of Colton Bergal. The Rams took over at midfield, and after an offsides call against the Bullets, Rivido too k the shotgun snap and ran through the middle. Miranda took him down after a seven-yard gain. The Rams elected to run the ball on fourth down and three, but Donny Mach (55) read the play perfectly and met Rivido before he could reach the line with a hit that could be heard in the parking lot.
Barnstable's next drive started with a facemask penalty against Marshfield. DiSimone drove seven yards on first down, and then Bindig broke free for 25, placing the ball on the 18-yard line of Marshfield. The Bullets didn’t get much farther though, and turned the ball over to Marshfield on their 14-yard line. The Silver Bullet defense stepped up to keep the ball deep into Marshfield territory with big stops from Bess, Delaney and Colby Putnam (70), forcing the rams to punt. For the last drive of the game Barnstable took over at the 32-yard line. Leonovich began with a three-yard rush thr ough the line. Delaney kept the ball on second down and ran for two more. Leonovich ran for three on third down and broke free for four more yards on fourth down with 26 seconds on the clock and a Barnstable first down. After Bindig ran a sweep for a seven-yard gain, the Bullets hustled back to the line and Delaney spiked the ball on second, stopping the clock and allowing the offense to regroup with little time left and end zone just 16 yards away. The Bullet fans were on their feet as Delaney took the snap. As he was looking downfield to pass, Marshfield’s nose tackle took him down and was called for a facemask penalty. With seconds on the clock and the ball at the six-yard line Delaney handed off to Bindig, who found a hole on the left side, but as he crossed the line of scrimmage a defender tripped him up while on the ground, ending Barn stable's last-minute promising drive, and time on the clock expired.
