Barnstable Silver Bullets Pee Wee Action

Sept. 14, 2008

After their first game of the season was postponed due
to poor field conditions, the Barnstable Silver Bullets Pee Wees took
the field in Hingham against the Raiders September 14, hoping to
start the season with a victory. Jack Papatti (#44) kicked off for
Barnstable and Tavian Miranda (#25) quickly tracked the ball carrier.
Hingham attempted a long pass on first down, which was almost
intercepted by Bo Delaney (#3), starting safety and quarterback. The
Hingham squad went four and out on the first set of downs thanks to
Colton Bergal’s (#11) sack on second down. Jordan Cannon (#1) and
Colton’s brother Keaton Bergal (#33) helped by holding the Raiders at
the line of scrimmage. Brendan Bindig (#2) was stripped on the first
offensive play for he Bullets and the Raiders marched down field led
by #10 Harrison Lane, who ran for 15 yards on one play for a first
down, 15 yards on another, and finally 3 yards for a touchdown,
despite Bo Delaney’s valiant effort, bringing him down just as the
ball crossed the goal line. Jordan Galvin-Jutras stuffed the extra
point attempt
with an excellent tackle.

The Silver Bullets mishandled the ensuing Kick-off and
Hingham recovered the loose ball, beginning another march downfield.
On first down Joel Besse (#60) stopped Hingham’s #40 for a three-yard
loss. Hingham ran Harrison Lane almost every play until he found the
end zone again, as well as a sweep around the end for the extra
point
, making the score 14-0.  Hingham kicked off to Justin
Marcantonio (#18), who ran it back 15 yards. The offense looked&nbs p;
promising as Charlie Di Simone (#32) ran for six yards, and Ryan
Leonovich (#7) took one up the middle for four, but a holding penalty
brought back one rush, and the Raiders took over on downs. Hingham’s
Harrison Lane, who seemed unstoppable, took a sweep around the left
side 50 yards for his third touchdown, but was stopped on the point-
after attempt by Di Simone.

Di Simone also handled the kickoff and ran 20 yards to
near midfield. Leonovich ran first down up the middle for eight
yards, then another three for the Bullets’ first down. After a couple
of short gains, Di Simone broke free on third down, scoring a 33-yard
touchdown. Delaney was stopped an inch short of the goal line by a
host of Hingham tacklers. Papatti kicked off, and the defense went to
work stopping the Raiders from adv ancing as the first half ended.

The second half started with the Hingham Raiders
kicking off to #15 Rory Davis who brought it back 12 yards to the
Bullets’ 45-yard line. Leonovich ran three downs and 12 yards for a
first down, but Barnstable was not able to convert on the next set of
downs, and Hingham handed the ball almost exclusively to their
favored player for six downs straight, and again, Lane finished the
drive in the end zone, despite outstanding individual efforts by
Christian Richards (#74) and Delaney. Hingham surprisingly handed the
extra point attempt to # 30, who crossed the goal line, making the
score 28-6.

The Bullets made some adjustments and ran Sonny (#34)
Bisazza for three yards. Galvin-Jutras almost broke around the end,
but was stopped just short of a first down. The Hingham Raiders took
over, but the Silver Bullets stopped them in their tracks, as Conner
Holmes (#57) stuffed one running play at scrimmage and Richards broke
through the line, sacking the Hingham quarterback for a three-yard
loss as the clock ran out.
