Barnstable D5 Midgets End in Stalemate with Scituate

The Barnstable Silver Bullets D5 Midgets ended in a hard-fought stalemate with Scituate on the road last Sunday (Sept. 25), 0-0, in what could only be characterized as a defensive battle.
Barnstable’s offense could muster little versus Scituate’s defense throughout the day, but in like fashion, the Barnstable defense stopped Scituate cold time and time again.
A 70-yard touchdown run by Rufus Hamilton was called back on a tough holding call. It was the only player’s entry into the end zone for the entire day for either team.
Hamilton led the Barnstable offense with 30 yards rushing on two carries (and would have had 100 yards if not for the call back). He was followed by Theo France (28 yards, 9 carries), Damian Johnson (19 yards, 6 carries), Tevin Hill (12 yards, 3 carries), Kevin Ostrom (3 yards, 1 carry) and Josiah Dulak (2 yards, 1 carry).
Hill went 2-5 passing for 40 yards and threw one interception. France received both completed passes for a total of 40 yards.
Two fumbles, a blocked punt and Hamilton’s negated touchdown run all added up to a Barnstable offense that seemed to shoot itself in the foot time and again.
On defense, middle linebacker Everett Walsh led all tacklers with 9.0 tackles on the day, followed by Tevin Hill (6.5 tackles), Damian Johnson (6.0 tackles), Sam Holway (6.0 tackles and one sack), Rufus Hamilton (3.0 tackles), Seth Etienne (2.0 tackles), Keegan Dellacona (2.0 tackles), Josiah Dulak (1.5 tackles), Kevin Ostrom (1.0 tackles), Zach Stevens (1.0 tackles), Damon Blake (1.0 tackles), Greg Gianno (1.0 tackles), Theo France (1.0 tackles), Kevin Hardy (1.0 tackles) and Alex LaFleur (0.5 tackles).
Stevens, usually unstoppable at defensive end, injured his neck early on in the affair and had to leave the game.
Barnstable is now 1-1-1 on the season.

Barnstable Silver Bullets D5 Midgets Edge Hanover, 16-14, in Defensive Battle
The Barnstable Silver Bullets Division 5 Midgets edged Hanover last Sunday afternoon, 16-14, in a football game that could only be characterized as a defensive stalemate.
Barnstable could not garner a first down on offense in spite of a healthy air attack intermixed with its solid ground game.
Instead, the Silver Bullets relief solely on the blazing open-field speed of kick returners Damian Johnson and Rufus Hamilton.
Hanover initiated the game with a 12-play scoring drive at the onset of the first quarter to make it 6-0, but a nice defensive goal line tackle by defensive tackle Keegan Dellacona halted the Hanover two-point Pat attempt.
On the ensuing Barnstable kick return, Johnson received and blazed downfield, eluding tackler after tackler until he struck paydirt to make it 6-6. Barnstable went ahead on its two-point PAT attempt on a nice run up the middle by Tevin Hill. The score was 8-6, Barnstable.
Barnstable and Hanover exchanged punts through the second quarter as both defenses played exceptionally hard until Hanover again struck paydirt late in the first half to head to the locker room on top (its two-point PAT was a success), 14-6.
Inspired by head coach Paul Thomas at halftime, kick returner Rufus Hamilton received the half’s opening kick and tore down the field at breakneck speed until he scored to make it 14-14.
Quarterback Damon Blake then followed suit by drilling tight end Everett Walsh in the end zone for the two-point conversion to make it 16-14, Barnstable. It was all the motivation – and edge – that the Silver Bullets would need as its staunch defense held Hanover at bay throughout the remainder of the affair.
Defensive end Zach Stevens played phenomenally throughout the game, including a bone-jarring hit on Barnstable’s opening kickoff and several tackles through the end of the game. He finished with 6.5 tackles on the day. Noseguard Sam Holway was equally aggressive in the Silver Bullet trenches, amassing 6.0 solo tackles on the day. Middle linebacker Everett Walsh followed with 5.0 tackles, as did defensive end Damian Johnson, and tackle Keegan Dellacona had 4.0 tackles. They were followed by linebacker Josiah Dulak (3.0 tackles), cornerback Damon Blake (2.0 tackles), linebacker Tevin Hill (3.5 tackles), Devin Broadley (1.0 tackles) and Caleb Eldredge (1.0 tackles).
Hamilton ended the game with a beautiful interception and knocked down two Hanover passes. Seth Etienne knocked away one pass and also had a fumble recovery for Barnstable.

Barnstable Silver Bullets D5 Midgets Fall to Hingham
The Barnstable Silver Bullets Division 5 Midgets fell to Hingham Sunday, 30-14.
Damian Johnson put the Bullets on the board in the first quarter to establish a 6-0 lead, but Hingham shortly followed with a touchdown of its own to make it 6-6. Both teams’ PAT attempts failed.
But Hingham went ahead on a safety, 8-6 and never relinquished the lead, ultimately ending in a 30-14 victory for the hosts.
Johnson scored again in the second half, with Damon Blake punching in the two-point PAT to make it 22-14, but Barnstable simply could not get out of the hole it was in.
Johnson collected 76 yards (2 TDs) on eight carries for the day’s work. Quarterback/halfback Tevin Hill followed with 36 yards on 8 carries and had runs of 10 and 15 yards. Blake carried the ball six times for 24 yards. Other players on offense who contributed were Kevin Ostrom (one carry, three yards), Rufus Hamilton (1 carry, 3 yards) and Theo France (1 carry, 7 yards).
On defense, middle linebacker Everett Walsh led all Barnstable tacklers with 8.0 total tackles (4 solo, 8 assisted), followed by Theo France (6.0 tackles), Zach Stevens (5.5 tackles), Keegan Dellacona (4.5 tackles), Rob Dombrowski (2.5 tackles), Josiah Dulak (2.0 tackles), Kevin Hardy (1.5 tackles), Sam Holway (1.0 tackles), Tevin Hill (1.0 tackles), Curtis Collopy (1.0 tackles), Caleb Eldredge (1.0 tackles), Devin Broadley (1.0 tackles), and Nick Cincotta (0.5 tackles).
Collopy broke his hand during the course of the game.
